
There is a lot of speculation about the meaning of the O.M. logo. Some say it's 'something in nothing' or 'something from nothing' due to it's binary representation. Another interpretation is the filling of nothing with something, ego replaced with cosmic awareness.
The Open Mind was officially founded in 1954. There isn't a lot known about it's founder, Fredrick Hemmlor before this time. He was a German immigrant who came to American the escape Nazi Germany. Shortly there after he started a business focused on the production of radio and television electronics. It quickly grew into a big tech company due to many electronics and broadcasting advancements the company developed.
The founding principal of the group, then only consisting of a few colleges of Hemmlor, was that there where frequencies and energies produced by the universe that, if properly conditioned, the human mind could tap into and use to improve themselves.

Hemmlor claimed that using special receiver equipment that he developed he was able to intercept cosmic frequencies usually undetectable to humans. He then devised a machine that would allow humans to hear these universal sounds. He felt that letting go of your earthly concerns and listening to these transmissions a person could change their brains, bettering themselves and vastly improve their lives.
